Outline of Short-Term benefits

Short-term benefits services provide benefits for illness, injury, childbirth, death, leave of absence, and disaster damage of members and their families (dependents).
These benefits include legislated benefits, which consist of health benefits, benefits for absence from work, and disaster relief benefits and supplementary benefits, which the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Mutual Aid Association provides on its own to supplement these legislated benefits.

All of these benefits are paid upon a claim from the member, except for the items with an asterisk (*), which do not require to file a claim (the Association will calculate the amount and pay the member).
Members must request the short-term benefit payment within two years from the day following the qualifying event.
Supplementary benefits are not paid if the would-be qualifying event occurs after disqualification of membership.
