Disasters


The following condolence payments are provided if the member or a dependent dies or receives damage to their residence and/or household effects due to earthquake, water damage, fire, or other extraordinary disasters.

  1. While extraordinary disasters refer to water damages such as floods and tsunamis, and earthquakes, fires, landslides, typhoons, and other acts of nature in principle, they also include unpredictable accidents, such as train derailment accidents.
  2. Even when the condolence payment is provided, the burial benefit is also paid.

Submit the claim form for condolence payment or family condolence payment along with a certification letter from the mayor of your local city or town, or the police chief.



Disaster Relief Payment
2 Damage to Residence and/or Household Effects

If members suffer damage to their residences and/or household effects due to an extraordinary disaster (except for theft), the Association will pay the following disaster relief benefits depending on the severity of the damage.

The entire residence and household effects were burnt down or lost. Three-month equivalent of the standard monthly salary
1/2 or more of the residence and household effects were burnt down or lost.
The entire residence or household effects were burnt down or lost.
Two-month equivalent of the standard monthly salary
1/3 or more of the residence and household effects were burnt down or lost.
1/2 or more of the residence or household effects were burnt down or lost.
One-month equivalent of the standard monthly salary
1/3 or more of the residence or household effects were burnt down or lost. 0.5-month equivalent of the standard monthly salary
Flooding damages a single-story house and certification to that effect is difficult 120 cm or higher above the floor One-month equivalent of the standard monthly salary
30 cm or higher above the floor 0.5-month equivalent of the standard monthly salary

  1. The amount of the disaster relief payment is determined separately for residence and household effects, and they are combined. The benefit amount would be capped at the three-month equivalent of the standard monthly salary.
  2. When two or more members reside in the same household, each member receives the payment.
  3. Residence is defined as a building in which the member is actually living, e.g., own house, rented house, municipal housing.
Household effects are defined as properties other than the house that are necessary for daily living, e.g., furniture, furnishings, bedding, and clothing (real estate properties, cash, deposited funds, and securities are excluded).
  4. If the member and his/her dependent(s) live separately, the residence and personal effects of the dependent(s) will be treated as part of those of the member.

Submit the claim form for disaster relief payment along with a certification letter from the mayor of your local city or town, or the police chief. Attach a document that confirms the damage condition.
